watching the movie version of "tales of the city"... who knew that laura linney and parker posey and olympia dukakis shined in this lovely tale?
i'm also reading "a day in san francisco" by dorothy bryant. didn't mean to invite these two to the same dance...

Tales of the City is, basically, Eden before the snake of death raises its head in the form of AIDS.
The snake is still not entirely seen by most people in A Day in San Francisco, but it's there.
If you haven't already read it, you might want to next read Randy Shilts's And the Band Played On, which is non-fiction and provides the political background to the early days of AIDS -- such as the battle in SF over closing the gay bathhouses.
excellent reading suggestion, Marianaria Sra. bibliotecaria - i've been wanting to read Shilts's And the Band Played On for a while.
marianaria, i'm so happy when you suggest books. you're always right on!
thank you.
Thanks! It's nice to have a fan club ....
i'm reading "further tales of the city" on tape and the fun times and love are so obviously pre-death threat. it's charming, but with that knowledge it's sinister too.
